The problem with passwords - actually problems would be much better – is that they have to be strong enough to keep people with malicious intent out of your account but at the same time they must be easily remembered. What use is a properly strong password if you cannot remember it? Once you settle on a strong password you must then ensure that it remains private – no matter how strong your password is, it offers no protection if everyone knows it.

If when you created your Gmail account you went for an easily crackable password, or if someone managed to find out what your Gmail password is, then you must definitely change it. Here is what you have to do to achieve this goal:

Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in.

Step 2. In the upper right hand corner of the screen locate and click Settings.

Step 3. In the Settings page click the Accounts and Import tab.

Step 4. Way down at the bottom, in the Google Account settings section there’s a piece of text that says Visit your Google Account settings to reset your password, change your security question or learn about access to other Google services. Click the Google Account settings link.

Step 5. A new tab will open. Under Personal Settings, next to Security click Change password.

Step 6. You will be directed to a new page where you will have to provide your old password next to Current Password, type in your new password next to New Password and then type in the new password one more time next to Confirm new password

Step 7. Click Save and you’re done. The next time you log into Gmail you will have to use the new password.

Tips and warnings
Always pick a strong password. Don’t pick something simple like puppy. Use letters, numbers and symbols to make the password stronger. And make sure you keep that password protected and private.
