The clarity of the text and images you see on your monitor or display is directly connected to the screen resolution. When the screen resolution is high, items displayed on the monitor appear sharper – and at the same time smaller. Which is not a bad thing if you like to keep a lot if stuff on the desktop; smaller icons means they take up less space, so you can put more icons on the desktop. When the screen resolution is low, desktop items appear large and not so sharp.
You can change the screen resolution to fit your needs. It is a very simple process. Just see below:
Step 1. Click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
Step 2. In the menu that appears click Control Panel.
Step 3. In the Control Panel window, under Appearance and Personalization, click Adjust screen resolution.
Step 4. Click the dropdown list next to Resolution -> Set the resolution by moving the slider -> when you find the resolution you want click Apply.
Step 5. Click Keep to use the new resolution. Click Revert to return to the previous resolution setting.
Tips and warnings
20” – 1600 x 1200
22” – 1680 x 1050
24” – 1900 x 1200

- There is also a Screen Resolution option in the right click context menu. When you right click an empty space on the desktop, the menu that appears features a Screen Resolution option – that you can remove if you want to (see here).
- When adjusting the screen resolution for you display, you must take two things into consideration: 1. what resolutions your monitor supports; 2. what type of video card you have. LCD monitors have a native resolution that provides the sharpest text and image display. If you do not know what your monitor’s native resolution is, here is a guideline of the most popular screen sizes and resolutions:
20” – 1600 x 1200
22” – 1680 x 1050
24” – 1900 x 1200
