Step 1. Minimize all open windows and/or applications. Better still, close all windows and shut down all running apps.

Step 2. On the desktop, right click any empty space -> in the dropdown menu select Properties.

Step 3. You should now be looking at the Display Properties window. Click the Settings tab, the last tab on the right hand side.

Step 4. In the Screen resolution section you will notice a slider -> move the arrow to the right to increase the screen resolution; move it to the left to decrease it. Underneath the arrow you will notice the actual screen resolution in pixels (800 by 600, 1024 by 768, 1152 by 864, and so on)

Step 5. When you find the resolution that you want, click Apply. The monitor will switch to the new resolution setting. You will be asked if you want to keep the new resolution. Click Yes if your do, click No if you don’t (the monitor will revert to the original resolution).

Tips and warnings
The monitor will go black for a few moments while the operating system switches to the new resolutions settings.
When you are asked whether you would like to keep the new resolution, if you do not click anything for a few seconds, the OS will automatically revert to the original monitor resolution.
Make sure to choose a resolution that your monitor can support.
Just as little reminder, monitor resolution refers to the number of pixels displayed on the device.
