When you click a download link on any webpage, the Chrome browser will gladly download that file to your computer. The thing is that it will download it to a default location, a location that you may not particularly like. What you could do is change the location with a directory path of your choosing. It is a relatively simple process. Just follow the detailed step-by-step instructions presented below.

Here is what you have to do to change the default download location in Chrome:

Step 1. First of all you need to launch the Chrome browser. So double click the desktop icon, click the Chrome icon from the Start menu, or whatever other means you use to launch the software application.

Step 2. Click the wrench menu.

Step 3. From the dropdown menu that appears select Options.

Step 4. The Google Chrome Options window will appear. Click the Under the hood tab.

Step 5. Now scroll down until you find the Downloads section. Under Download location click Browse.

Step 6. The Browse For Folder window will appear. Locate the folder where you would like Chrome to store future downloads -> then click OK.

Step 7. Now click Close and you’re done.

Tips and warnings
  • To restore Chrome to its default settings, follow the steps presented above. When you get to step 5, instead of scrolling down, simply press the Reset to defaults button.

  • With Google Chrome you can easily access various search engines from within the address bar. You may already know that the address bar doubles as a search box. Type in a search query, press Enter and a list of results will be displayed.
