Change Save Files To Default Location in Firefox
Article by George Norman

The Mozilla developed web browser, by default, saves files you pull off the web onto your desktop. This default Save Files To behavior is enough for some users – the user that saves data on the desktop and then moves it manually to another location; or the user that downloads the setup executable of a piece of software on the desktop, installs that software and then removes the setup exe. Other users on the other hand would much rather save files to another location – this tutorial is meant for them.

Here is what you have to do to change Save Files To default location in Firefox:

Step 1. Launch the Firefox browser. Double click the desktop icon, click the Firefox icon in the Quick Launch bar, any other way that gets you to fire up the Firefox browser.

Step 2. In the list of menus at the top, click Tools (the second to last menu).

Step 3. In the dropdown menu that appears click Options.

Step 4. The Options window should have appeared. Click the Main tab (the first tab in the left hand corner).

Step 5. In the Downloads section check the box next to Save files to.

Step 6. Click Browse to choose the destination folder where downloads will be stored. Click OK when you’re satisfied.

Step 7. Click OK and you’re done. Files you download from the web will be stored in the folder you specified.

Tips and warnings
When you get to step 5 you could select Always ask me where to save files instead of Save files to. You will get to choose where to save the file – each time you download something off the web.
