Change Availability Settings in Yahoo! Messenger
One of the numerous things you can do in the Yahoo! developed instant messaging application, Yahoo! Messenger, is set and change your availability settings. You can set your availability status to Busy for example when you want to let others know that you are doing something and you cannot afford to be interrupted. Or you can just go Invisible and everyone in your contacts list will think you are offline.
Here is what you have to do to change your availability settings in Yahoo! Messenger
Step 1. When you sign in you can check the box next to Sign in as invisible to everyone. Leaving the box unchecked means that everyone in your contacts list will see that you signed in. If you check the box, you will sign in as invisible – your contacts will not notice a thing.
Step 2. Once logged in you have the option to become visible/invisible to all the people in your contacts list (depending whether you logged in as visible or invisible). In this regard click your name -> in the dropdown menu select Available or Invisible to everyone.
You can also set you availability status to Busy. In the dropdown menu I mentioned above click Busy.
Step 3. You can be visible/invisible only for certain users. For example when you sign in as invisible to everybody, you can become available only for certain users. Alternatively you can set your availability status to invisible only for certain users.
Here is what you have to do: right click a user or group -> in the dropdown menu go to Stealth Settings -> click either Appear Online to USERNAME or Appear Permanently Offline to USERNAME.

Tips and warnings
- When you select Appear Permanently Offline to USERNAME, that user will no longer see you as Available, even when you sign in as available to everybody.
- When you set your availability status to invisible, you will definitely not want some site to reveal the fact that you are signed in. So go to Messenger -> Preferences -> Privacy -> uncheck the box next to Allow Yahoo! web sites to show when I am online -> click Apply -> click OK.
