When you want to burn data onto a disc, be it a CD or DVD, you could use a 3rd party software application that works with your Windows-based operating system. The name of one such application immediately comes to mind: Nero (the regular version or the free version). I’ve used 3rd party software to burn data on Windows XP and Windows Vista. With Windows 7 on the other hand, 3rd party software is no longer necessary – at least not for your basic data burning needs.
Microsoft developed Windows 7 with convenience in mind. In this context it is a lot more convenient to build the data burning option into the operating system rather than let the user search for a data burning software (preferably something free), download it, and install it on the system. If all went well, you could then burn data onto a CD or DVD. But sometimes the software would not detect your burning drive, would not recognize the disc you inserted in the disc drive, or would just refuse to work because you did not pay to activate it (and the darn thing was advertised as free). Not to mention the fact that most times the software was so complicated that even tech savvy users had a tough time figuring out how it works (not the case with Nero though).
As long as you have Windows 7, you can do away with all these problems. The operating system lets you easily burn data onto CDs and DVDs. Just follow the steps presented below:
Step 1. Locate the file you would like to burn.
Step 2. Click the Burn button at the top of the window.
Step 3. Another window will display all the files you’ve added to the burn list. You can add more files to the list, or you could just launch the data burning procedure. In this regard you need only click Burn to disc.
Step 4. You will be asked to insert a disc in the burning drive. If a disc is only inserted, you will be asked to give it a name.
At this point you can select the speed at which data will be burnt onto the disc. By default, Windows 7 selects the highest speed.
Step 5. Click Next to start burning data onto the disc.
Step 6. Click Finish and you’re done.
