There is one thing I like about the Apple developed Safari browser: the fact that the address bar and the progress bar and blended into one. My browser of choice is Mozilla’s Firefox. The sad thing is that Firefox does not provide this functionality – not by default anyway. But get the right add-on and you could enhance the way the Firefox browser look and feels.

Thanks to an add-on called Fission you could get the same blended address bar/progress bar you get in Safari. Here is what you have to do.

Step 1. Click this link – a new tab will open and you will be directed to the addons.mozilla.org (AMO for short) webpage where the add-on is hosted.

Please note that you need to have Firefox open. If you are reading this tutorial with another browser close it and launch Firefox.

Step 2. Click the big, green Add to Firefox button.

Step 3. One of two things will happen now:
1. If you added AMO to the list of sites that can install add-ons, then Software Installation window will appear. You must click Install Now.
2. If you did not add AMO to the list of sites that can install add-ons, then the following prompt will appear: Firefox prevented this site (addons.mozilla.org) from asking you to install software on your computer. You should click Allow –> then click Install Now.

If you would like to add AMO to the list of sites that can install add-ons, follow the instructions presented in this tutorial.

Step 4. A prompt in the Add-ons window will inform you that Firefox has to be restarted. Click Restart Firefox.

The following prompt will appear if you have multiple tabs open: “Firefox will try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.” Just click Restart. You could check the box next to Don’t ask me again if you would like to never again see this prompt.

Step 5. In the Add-ons window select the Fission add-on -> click Options.

Step 6. In the Fission Options window you can select the color of the progress bar. Just click Color -> select the color you would like to use. I went for green (see the Before and After images below).
