The novice user that has just now created a Gmail account is undoubtedly having a bit of a trouble using the Google developed email client. For this precise reason we came up with this article, which is meat to complement the How To Send an Email in Gmail. Now that you know how to send out an email, we will show you how to add an attachment to that email – you can attach images, videos, text documents and other files to an outgoing email; the only restriction is that they must be more than 25MB (megabytes) in size.

Here is what you have to do to attach an email to an outgoing message:

Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in.

Step 2. Click Compose Mail from the upper left hand corner of the screen, right under the big Gmail logo

Step 3. In the To section enter the email address of the person you want to send a message to. In the Subject section type in the title of the email. In the big white area underneath, type in your email’s message.

Step 4. When you are done typing your message it is time to attach the file you want to send out. Click Attach a file – it is right beneath email’s subject, check the image below.

Step 5. A new window will appear -> locate the file you want to attach and click Open. A progress bar will indicate the fact that the file is being added to the email. When it completes, click Add Another file to add one more attachment - repeat for all the files you want to attach.

Step 6. Click Send and the email will be sent out.

Tips and warnings
If you change your mind and do not want to attach a specific file to your outgoing email, simply uncheck the box next to it and it will be removed. Click Attach another file to attach a different file to the outgoing email (see image below).
If you attach a 28MB file to an outgoing email and send it to someone who does not use Gmail, that person may not be able to access the attachment. This is because pretty much all other email clients have smaller attachment limits.
You can use Gmail a lot faster if you take advantage of the keyboard shortcuts the service has to offer. A detailed list is available here. Please note that you can use these keyboard shortcuts only after you enable them.
