Add a Signature in Gmail

In previous tutorials we’ve shown you how to create a Gmail account and how to send an email with Google’s email client, and how to add an attachment to outgoing email messages. When you send out email messages, it’s common courtesy to sign them. In this regard you could sign your outgoing email each and every time you want to send one out. Or you could just add a custom signature (a piece of text that will be appended at the end of all your outgoing messages).

Here are the steps you must follow to add a signature in Gmail:

Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in.

Step 2. In the upper left hand corner of the screen, right next to your username, there’s a Settings link. Click it.

Step 3. The Settings window will load -> when its loaded click the General tab.

Step 4. Scroll down the page until you find a section that says Signature: (appended at the end of all outgoing messages). The No signature box is checked by default -> check the box underneath it, next to the empty text box.

Step 5. In that empty box type in the signature you’d like to be appended to your outgoing emails.

Step 6. When you’re done typing in your signature (watch out for typos) scroll down to the bottom of the page -> click Save Changes and you’re done. You will automatically be directed to the main Gmail page.

Tips and warnings
  • It came to light that if you select a specific Gmail signature, then Google will not display any ads in the right hand side of the screen. This topic is presented in detail here.
  • If you no longer like your Gmail signature, use the same steps presented above to edit it.
