Add a Folder in Windows

After the installation process of the Microsoft developed Windows operating system is complete, you will notice that it has set up a bunch of folders by default. The easiest one to notice is the My Documents folder – it is displayed right on the desktop alongside My Computer, My Network Place and the Recycle Bin. What is a folder good for? A folder is a digital container that gathers together all sorts of files. You could compare it to a child’s toy chest. Instead of being scattered all over the house, the child’s toys are neatly stored away in the chest. In this comparison, the folder is the chest and the toys are the files.

How do you go about adding or creating new folders in Windows? Just read below and you will find out. It is not a very difficult process, but make sure you properly follow the step-by-step guide.

Step 2. Right click an empty space in the desktop.

Step 3. In the dropdown menu that appears go to New -> click Folder.

Step 4. Type the name you want to give this new folder. For example type in Work if you want to save your work stuff in the folder.

Step 5. Press Enter and you’re done. You can access the newly created folder by double clicking it.

How to add/create a folder on a partition or inside and existing folder:

Step 1. Double click the My Computer icon and navigate to the partition (for example C: or D:) or folder where you want to add/create a new folder.

Step 2. Right click an empty space -> New Folder -> type in the folder’s name -> press Enter.
Alternatively you can click the Make a New Folder link in the menu to the left.
